Outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapies at Franciscan Point are offered through the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC). Focused on getting you on the road to recovery, we provide an assortment of therapies for patients with various diagnoses and work-related injuries.
Physical Therapy
Illness and injury often compromise strength and flexibility. Physical therapy focuses on increasing strength, range of motion and functional mobility. Your physical therapist also may recommend an assistive device such as a cane, braces or a wheelchair to aid mobility.
Occupational Therapy
In occupational therapy, you will develop skills that help with your daily activities such as self-care, dressing, feeding and homemaking tasks. Group activities, including meal preparation, a community trip and therapeutic humor, create a social environment to practice motor and cognitive skills. Prior to discharge, your occupational therapist will perform a home assessment and recommend appropriate equipment necessary for you to return safely to a home environment.
Speech Therapy
If you have suffered a serious head injury, stroke or other neurological damage, you may have problems communicating or swallowing effectively. Our speech/language pathologists can help you regain these skills. Difficulties may range from slurred speech and articulation problems to aphasia – a reduced ability to comprehend or express oneself. Additional deficits addressed by included impaired memory, thought organization, concentration or problem-solving skills.
