Benefits of Doula Assistance
Doulas have proven to shorten labor, reduce use of forceps, vacuum, cesarean section and other obstetric intervention. Women with doulas are less likely to suffer from postpartum depression and are more satisfied with their labor and delivery experience.
A doula does not replace a woman’s partner, but instead makes him or her feel more comfortable during the birth. For women without partners, a doula may be the only source of focused, continuous emotional support throughout her labor.
Babies born with a doula’s help breastfeed better and are less frequently admitted to special care units.
Doulas are recognized and credited for improved physical outcomes and emotional well-being of mothers and infants.
