Safe and efficient emergency transportation

Arriving by ambulance or medical helicopter

The ambulance garage at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health – Lafayette Central is located immediately behind the Emergency Care Center. This means a shorter route to the emergency team that will care for you.

Additionally, Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health – Lafayette Central has a helipad located in the parking lot right outside the ambulance entrance for patients arriving by medical helicopter.

Access to this helipad is beneficial not only for incoming patients, but for patients that need to be transferred to another facility. Our partnership with PHI, Inc., an emergency air transport service based at the Purdue airport, allows physicians to choose the right kind of transportation to and from Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health hospitals.

There are five EMS staffed ambulances in Tippecanoe County, strategically located to best serve the population.

Transferring to another hospital

In an emergency, the most important factor is how quickly you get life-saving medical treatment. If you’re driving to the Emergency Care Center on your own or, preferably with a loved one, your best choice is to go to the closest facility to you. If you are arriving in an ambulance, the emergency medical technicians (EMTs) will help you make the best decision based on your condition.

After you’ve been treated in the Emergency Care Center, it sometimes may be necessary to transport you to our other hospital because of the care you need to get better.

Lafayette Central, located near downtown Lafayette, provides services for long-tem care patients such as Inpatient Rehab, Behavioral Health and Cancer Care. Lafayette East is the primary facility for surgery, heart care and women's services. Both hospitals have intensive care units.

If you need to be transported to our other hospital, we have private, fully equipped transport ambulances that will safely move you to the necessary facility once you are stabilized. There is no extra charge to you if you are transported between Lafayette East and Lafayette Central.
