Hospice care gives comfort and support to patients of all ages and their families when life-limiting illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments. Hospice care neither prolongs life nor hastens death. We recognize death as a natural process. Since 1997, St. Elizabeth Hospice has helped many families cope with incurable disease while helping their loved ones live with comfort and dignity.

Hospice care begins when curative treatment is no longer expected to be effective. This care neither hastens nor postpones death, but respectfully recognizes dying as a natural process.

You don’t have to be living in your own home to receive hospice care. St. Elizabeth Hospice provides care wherever you are, whether at your home, an assisted living facility, nursing home, hospital or a loved one’s home.

Our hospice team provides supportive consultation and a treatment plan that helps patients maintain their independence and quality of life for as long as possible.

It’s easy to remember such a unique nickname, a mispronunciation of “Elizabeth” as a toddler that stuck with her for life. But it isn’t all that’s unforgettable about Beeba. She was a caring mother of five, a food service manager at Purdue for 23 years and a volunteer at Home Hospital’s gift shop. And those who knew her admired her sharp humor, magnetic personality and zestful pursuit of new experiences.

Hospice affirms life and St. Elizabeth Hospice, a non-profit organization, is committed to providing compassionate care and support for persons in the last phases of incurable disease so they may live as fully and comfortably as possible.

Hospice recognizes dying as a natural process, and neither hastens nor postpones death. Hospice care is supportive and palliative - not curative.

Hospice exists in the hope and belief that, through appropriate care and the promotion of a caring community sensitive to their needs, patients and families may remain in control of their own lives, and can emotionally and spiritually prepare for death.

Our hospice physician serves as an advisor to the entire team, and also work with the patient’s primary care physician.

How do I get started?

At any time during a life-limiting illness, it's appropriate to discuss all of a patient's care options, including hospice. Admission to hospice is based on a physician's clinical judgment that hospice care would be appropriate for a patient, given the expected course of an illness.
