Volunteering to help others

When you volunteer, you give part of yourself and you follow in the footsteps of Christ by helping others. When you volunteer at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health, your gift of time truly makes a difference in the lives of our patients and your community.

Volunteers serve in more than 40 areas throughout our two medical centers. Volunteers of Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health provide a wide variety of services; from providing support to our staff to working with our activity directors in our skilled nursing unit and elder care, to providing support to families and visitors in our numerous waiting rooms and service customers in our gift shops.

If you would like to grow through service to others, learn new skills, develop new interests, make new friends and enjoy the rare satisfaction of helping others, then call now or apply online! We'd love to welcome you.

Volunteering is a like being a mailman: we come here no matter how our bodies feel or whether it is raining, sleeting or snowing. Our pay is priceless. There is no way you can put a price tag on smiles, thank yous, tears and hugs. I just want to thank this hospital for giving me back my life, because I lost a wonderful husband almost four years ago. This job has helped me to meet a new family.

Volunteering has helped me get rid of the pain, anger and loss I felt. I am so thankful for the guidance that God has given to me.

Joyce Dost, volunteer

Who are the volunteers?
Men, women and teenagers who come from all walks of life, but share a common desire to help others. We have volunteers who are retirees, former patients, homemakers, husband and wife teams, professionals and students.

When do volunteers work?
Volunteers usually work once or twice a week for three to four hours at a time. Volunteers are needed seven days a week during the morning, afternoon and evening hours.

How will I know what to do?
All new volunteers go through an orientation and education day to familiarize them with the hospital and volunteer operations. In addition, when volunteers first assume their responsibilities, they work with other volunteers in the same position until they feel comfortable.
