Chest Pain Center Accreditation with PCI logoWe have been the region’s heart leader for decades. Our Heart Center at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health - Lafayette East allows us to raise the bar even higher by consolidating all heart services in the South Building. This makes everything more convenient, efficient and much faster.

The Emergency Care Center is now just steps away from two state-of-the-art cath labs to get you care as quickly as possible. Surgery is in close proximity offering eight operating rooms including one designed especially for open heart procedures.

With designated cardiac care units and numerous procedures, Franciscan St. Elizabeth has developed a continuum of heart care.

We are also continually working with physicians and specialty groups such as  St.Vincent Medical Group, CorVasc, Franciscan Physician Network Cardiology and St.Vincent Heart Center to care for your heart.

Should I See a Heart Specialist?

A heart specialist can help determine if the specific symptoms you are experiencing are related to heart disease, as well as assess your risk of a future heart attack. Use our DecisionAssist Tool to help you decide whether or not to see a heart specialist.

Did you know?

High blood pressure, sometimes referred to as the “silent killer," affects one in four adults in the U.S.

Know your heart attack risk factors

  • Increasing age
  • Diabetes
  • Family history of coronary artery disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Smoking
  • Too much fat in your diet
  • Unhealthy cholesterol levels
  • Chronic kidney disease

Controlling risk factors

adam-heart-interior.jpgHeart disease is the No. 1 worldwide killer of men and women, including in the United States. For example, heart disease is responsible for 40 percent of all the deaths in the United States, more than all forms of cancer combined.

The goal of the Heart Center’s prevention and screening programs is to educate about controllable risk factors and prevent cardiovascular disease.

A risk factor is something about you that increases your chance of getting a disease or having a certain health condition. Some risk factors for heart disease you cannot change, but some you can. Changing the risk factors that you have control over will help you live a longer, healthier life.

Time is muscle

Every minute counts in the treatment of heart disease. That's why we put a special cardiac team in place to be prepared, stats in hand, to meet you at the Emergency Care Center if you're suddenly suffering from Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) or Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI or heart attack).

Bringing together Tippecanoe County EMS and the Heart Center's Cath Lab, the Code STEMI (ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction) Response Team strives to beat the "door-to-balloon" golden rule of 90 minutes when our team is called into action.

Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health has partnered exclusively with several strong physician groups to deliver the best possible cardiac and vascular care for patients and their families in the Tippecanoe County area.

With our cardiac partners dedicated exclusively to Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health's cardiovascular program, our area patients are assured of continuity of care for the long-term by the same group of cardiac surgeons.
