Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health Pediatric Outpatient Services welcomes pediatric endocrinologist

Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health will launch Pediatric Outpatient Services on Wednesday, Aug. 29 with pediatric endocrinology and diabetes education.

As part of the services, Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health welcomes Andrew C. Riggs, M.D. to the Greater Lafayette medical community. Dr. Riggs will begin seeing patients at Pediatric Outpatient Services, located in a dedicated office within the Pediatric Care Center at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health – Lafayette East.

To access the Pediatric Outpatient Services, patients and their families will need to enter through the South Entrance at St. Elizabeth East and stop at the Registration area.

Dr. Riggs currently serves as the medical director of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent in Indianapolis.

Dr. Riggs received his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1998. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Minnesota and a pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis and St. Louis Children’s Hospital. He has been with St.Vincent since 2004.

Dr. Riggs has a specific interest in diabetes and has authored numerous professional articles on diabetes in children. He is also very active in the diabetes community in central Indiana and is the Medical Director of the Diabetes Youth Foundation of Indiana.

“We are excited to have Dr. Riggs and Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent partner with us on providing pediatric endocrinology services to patients in this area,” said Marcia Cherry, R.N., director of Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health’s NICU, Pediatric Care Center and Pediatric Outpatient Services. “This will enable patients to be seen closer to home. We are excited to be able to offer this service once again to our community.”

Dr. Riggs will see established patients and is accepting new pediatric diabetic patients. Certified diabetes educators from the Franciscan Healthy Living Center’s Diabetes Education​ will also work with these children to ensure that they receive the optimal care necessary to promote their well-being.
