Franciscan Alliance officials, staff and guests provided a healthy turnout for a blessing and dedication ceremony Oct. 2 to mark the opening of the Woodland Cancer Care Center in Michigan City.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony that included (from left) Gene Diamond, CEO of Franciscan Alliance’s Northern Indiana Region; Dr. Maurice Ndukwu, of Physician Investment Enterprises; Joe Coar, vice president of operations for Tonn and Blank Construction; Sister Jane Marie Klein, OSF, chairperson of the Franciscan Alliance Board of Trustees; Dr. James Callaghan, president of Franciscan St. Anthony Health - Michigan City; Trish Weber, the hospital’s vice president of operations and chief nursing officer; and Rosemary Meux, the hospital’s director of oncology services; marked the opening of the facility.
The Rev. Kevin Huber of Queen of Saints church later blessed the facility’s rooms.

The public is invited to attend an open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 Sunday at Woodland, 8955 W. 400 North.
The $12 million, 20,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility, under the auspices of Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Michigan City, offers a new, state-of-the-art Trilogy Linear Accelerator, PET/CT scan and diagnostic CT, 13 infusion bays, a laboratory and pharmacy and cancer screenings, along with a patient and family education center and a community room.
The open house will include free health screenings for colorectal cancer, blood glucose, blood pressure, pulse oximetry and bone density. Prizes will include a one-night getaway at Marina Grand Resort in New Buffalo, Mich.; two Kindle Fire HD 7s, and two, $150 gift cards for Lighthouse Place premium outlets.
