Frequently asked questions

I am currently insured. Do I need to switch my insurance coverage?
If you are continuing your employer-based insurance, through Advantage, Aetna, Anthem, Cigna, United and others, it will continue to be accepted at the same providers you have been receiving service. Please be assured that Franciscan Alliance will continue to accept your Anthem insurance (along with other employer-based insurance).

If, however, you are working for a smaller employer and they are discontinuing health insurance for their employees, you should be evaluating insurance products offered through the healthcare marketplace or other individual products. The marketplace, however, is the only place where, if eligible, you may receive tax credits, subsidies and even cost deductible and co-pay cost sharing.
Do I need to shop for insurance through the healthcare marketplace?
You will not need to select an insurance product through the healthcare marketplace if you are eligible or currently have any of the following:

  • Medicare;
  • Medicaid;
  • CHIP;
  • Any job-based plan;
  • Retiree coverage;
  • Any plan you bought yourself that the insurer is continuing to offer (note that some insurers are discontinuing some individual plans);
  • TRICARE; or
  • VA health coverage
You will need to select an insurance product through the healthcare marketplace or other commercial individual product if:
  • You are employed by a smaller employer who is discontinuing insurance coverage for its employees you should shop for coverage through the healthcare marketplace;
  • You are young, under or uninsured and coming off your parents insurance (at age 26); or
  • You have an individual plan that is being discontinued by the insurer.
If you have COBRA insurance (a temporary extension of coverage one purchases after a job termination), you should check the date that it terminates so that you are not without coverage in the future. OR, as a person with COBRA you are eligible for marketplace products and you may find that premiums are significantly lower than your existing COBRA premiums, particularly if your financial situation makes you eligible for tax credits or subsidies. We encourage you to price shop.
What are my choices for healthcare marketplace plans in Indiana?
There are two main insurance groups offering products in Indiana that you can select through the healthcare marketplace. Each of the products has several levels of coverage so you can find one that best fits the needs of you and your family, along with your budget.

MDwise’s Hoosier Alliance plans offer the widest array of care delivery locations, physician’s offices, hospitals, imaging centers and outpatient services for the healthcare marketplace.
